In the thirst for news on this case, one doesn't know what to believe. The papers say one thing, the internet another, the TV something else and Portugal something different again. So much misinformation.
It doesn't look good for them as it stands. So are they being set up? I'm mystified as to why anyone would want to do this to them, except for the Portuguese police to get a quick result. If that's the case, how quickly fortunes can change. In the blink of eye, you find yourself rotting in a foreign prison.
Are they innocent? If so, there's little chance of a normal life for the foreseeable future. The press frenzy is unlikely to abate for quite some time. How could they ever extricate themselves from the spotlight? And what will they tell the twins?
Did they do it? If so, we've all been had. (except for the 'well, I always knew there was something odd about it. She's hard as nails, why leave the twins on their own and meet the Pope just days later, etc, etc' barmy army). If it was an accident, better to come clean sooner rather than later?
The way things are going, this will be an ITV drama starring Joanne Froggatt (who always plays the victim) and Richard Coyle, with a host of faces as Team McCann. Before the end of the year, probably.
It's a circus. But aren't you dying to know what's going to happen in the end?
