He wears short shorts (and he really shouldn't)

I'm not good in hot weather. I'm not a shorts person. I tend to keep my legs covered up at all times. I might wear then on holiday to go to the pool in, but I would never walk down the street in them. I don't have the legs for it, and neither do about 98% of the rest of male population.

Some people are into their shorts as soon as the sun shows it face at whatever time of year. Perhaps it's those people who wear suits all week can't wait to get into something more casual. But sometimes it's not warm enough for shorts, but the sun's out so better put them on! I find it annoying. Much like I find the t-shirt and woolley hat combo both annoying and bewildering.

Nothing though, is more annoying than those silly three-quarter length trousers. I'm sorry if you own some and I'm offending you, but they make people's legs look really short and stumpy. They're really not a good look. Some fashion kingpins somewhere are giggling behind their fans at how they've managed to pull off this joke on gullible men.

Thing is, I hate sunbathing. I always burn, unless i"m really, really careful. In Thailand about 20 years ago I burnt so badly I blistered all over. It was very nearly a hospital job. I never want to do that again. Consequently, I'm not the most tanned person you'll ever meet. My legs certainly won't be, anyway.

For once, though, it's nice to have the sun out. As long it's not too hot, I can cope. But today I hear that rain is around the corner, and that's much more me.

I'm not a vest person either.

What not to wear

Here's yet another silly story about how Britain's gone mad.

Home Office officials should wear softer coloured uniforms when deporting people, it says. Like what - teal? Lenny Bennett Powder Blue? Correct me if I'm wrong, but if you're being forced to leave the country because you've committed a crime or outstayed your welcome, it's not meant to be a pleasant have-a-nice-day kind of experience.

Workwear decisions can be difficult. I don't have to wear a suit or a tie or anything, and that's fine with me. I can wear jeans, trainers, whatever. But I do know when to look smart when the occasion dictates it.

However, some people don't understand this. While it's currently vogue to wear t-shirts all the year round, often in winter teamed with a very silly woolly hat, this won't do for a wedding. I've seen people at weddings in shorts - in winter.

Shorts are a problem. Personally, I'm not getting my legs out for anyone, so I never wear shorts, except to the beach. I wouldn't dream of wearing them for work. Some people put them on at the drop of a (Panama) hat. I don't think they're appropriate work wear, no matter how hot it is outside. And as for vests - don't get me started, not to mention those awful three-quarter-length trousers that make men's legs look really stumpy.

I prefer the full trouser for work. What about you?
