A question of age

Isn't it amusing how one's tastes change - or not. To wit:

Today, I love them. But 20 or more years ago, I wouldn't countenance them for a second:

Foreigner
Huey Lewis & The News
The Dooleys
Styx
Phil Fearon & Galaxy
Jethro Tull
Gary Numan
Rush
The Boomtown Rats
Hot Chocolate
Supertramp
Steeleye Span
Air Supply
Chicago
Fairport Convention and all affiliates

Didn't care for them then, still don't like them now:

Wham!
George Michael
Radiohead
Pet Shop Boys
Van Morrison
Pink Floyd (on the whole)
The Doors

Liked them then. What was I thinking?:

Shannon
Haysi Fantayzee (except John Wayne Is Big Leggy)
Belle Stars
Donna Summer
Rip, Rig and Panic
Billy Idol
Fine Young Cannibals
Dead Or Alive
Madonna
The Christians
The Communards

Liked them and didn't care who knew it:

Journey
The Bangles
Five Star
Deacon Blue
ELO
Fleetwood Mac
The Beautiful South
Neil Diamond
Peter, Paul & Mary

Fallen in and out of love with:

Duran Duran
Mari Wilson
Blondie
Fairport Convention
ABBA
Siouxsie & The Banshees
David Bowie
Smiths
Eurythmics
Hazel O'Connor
Queen
The Sweet
The Beatles
Human League
REM
Prince

Never gone off them, not even for a moment:

Japan
Roxy Music
Badfinger
The Cult
Crosby, Stills & Nash (and affiliates)
The B-52's
Sergio Mendes & Brasil 66
Rolling Stones
UB40
Mike Oldfield
The Modern Lovers
Donovan
The Mamas and The Papas
OMD

Singles only:

Erasure
Bee Gees
Def Leppard
ABC
Cure
Marillion
Quo
China Crisis

That'll do.

Random strangers

I had a very long and convoluted journey into work this morning, due to one thing or another, which gave me more time than usual to sample the delights of my ipod.

When you've got it on random, it's amazing how often the same things come up, day after day. Probably the last few times I've randomized I've got Norma Waterson's version of God Loves A Drunk, Cousin Norman by Marmalade and always something from the soundtrack to Requiem For A Dream on consecutive days. Why does this happen?

Anyhoo, apart from Norma, today spewed forth a lot of Foreigner. I'd forgotten what a fanatastic number Urgent is. Then came Hot Blooded, which I only recently realised was sampled by Ton Loc in Funky Cold Medina. You can keep you're I Want To Know What Love Is, but the rest simply rock. There's no xenophobia on my ipod.

Where are they now?
