You enter a cake-baking contest and you come second. Then you discover you were the only entrant. But this woman did the same thing 11 years ago - and came third. She must be doing something wrong. Perhaps she's pissed off the judges.
Those judges are harsh though. Have you seen The Great British Village Show? It's perfect Sunday night viewing (with an odd choice of presenters, apart from Alan Titchmarch). The two women who judge the food rounds make Simon Cowell look like a Pollyanna. Never has anyone not held back like them.
You can see that Calendar Girls was no exaggeration.
