In a Paddy

We watched this film, Dead Man's Shoes, yesterday. It was recommended to me by a friend, which is usually enough to put me off - there's always that feeling of slight pressure - but in the DVD player it went and it was amazing.

In this Shane Meadows project, Paddy Considine is an ex-commando out to avenge his brother's treatment at the hands of a nasty gang of druggies in the Peak District. It's full of twists and turns and surprises, and though Considine is a murderer, you root for him against this hideous band of ne-er do wells.

I really like Paddy Considine. He's great in A Room For Romeo Brass and In America, and he's not in enough stuff. He must pick his projects very carefully.

Beautiful scenery too. Do see it if you can.

One of my favourite films. Ever. I love the East Midlands accents, especially when Considine says the word 'blunt'. I love the really hard 'u' sound. It's nice to hear your own accent in feature films.

It really does show the horrid side of life. And apparently it's based on a true story.

Considine is first class in everything he touches.

Watch out for Shane Meadows' new film, This England (I think it's called), coming out this year.

You're right to mention what a great film this is. Even the over-the-top stuff like the gas mask somehow works really well. Going to a screening of This is England in the next week or so, and I believe Shane Meadows is doing a bit of a Q&A session.
