A terrible blow

I was surprised to read about the death of Isabella Blow. I don't any of the circumstances of her death but apparently she poisoned herself. When I worked for The Sun I used to see her in the News International canteen. She was at the Sunday Times and she was bonkers, a true eccentric. There was no mistaking her with her bizarre hats and outfits.

I liked seeing her, like I enjoyed seeing other 'faces' around the building. Charlie Catchpole, Garry Bushell, Dominic Mohan, Rebekah Wade etc. You didn't have to enjoy their work to like seeing them around. She was the best though because a high-falutin' as she was, she was never too grand to mix it up in the canteen, and she was always laughing.

I don't even know how old she was. Let's hope she's wearing some groovy hats wherever she is now.

According to the Mail (ie probably wrong), she was supposed to have had terrible depression, and a couple of other failed suicide attempts. I think it's very common for people to hide depression underneath an overly sunny side, and I guess that everyone thought she was really happy - the fashion biz isn't renowned for its sympathy and concern, is it? The world is becoming a less colourful place, and one eccentric less is a sad loss.

I read today she had cervical cancer, so perhaps she decided to end it all because of that. Very sad.
