City in Hell

Did you see the Sarah Parish starrer Sex, The City and Me? I thought it was rather good. About a high-flying city trader who dares to have a baby and is then fired, with everything that entails. Sarah Parish is in so much stuff it's hard to believe her sometimes, but she was very good in this. Hats off to Sarah Lancashire for her understated performance as a tougher-than-she-looks lawyer who took the case - and won. She should have her own spin-off series. Ben Miles was good as Parish's oily boss too.

The City was portrayed as a hideous nightmare of glass and steel, populated by sexist, ageist, money-grabbing suits. So an accurate portrait was painted. Some might consider Sex, The City and Me to be pure fabrication, heightened for the purposes of drama. And with some of the dialogue it's an easy mistake to make. But having worked (briefly) in the City, and in the go-getting Eighties, too, it's actually more like that than they showed it to be. It's bloody hard work keeping up the shouting, drinking and swearing, believe you me. And as for the suits...

Woman have to be men, men have to be neanderthal. So having a baby is not an option.

First class drama.

Britain's Got Talent - loved it, but not sure about the winner. I liked the little girl who did Mary Poppins songs.

Yes, I really enjoyed it too. I think Sarah Parish is an absolutely fantastic actress, and what makes her different from so many others is that men fancy her and women like her too.
