Over on ttp://www.wherediditallgoright.com/BLOG/index.html there's yet another rather cross debate going on. But it's between the same two people and from what I can gather without trawling through endless quotes and misquotes, it all seems to be about religion - possibly. And it's all getting rather heated.
I don't go in for the weighty here. Obvioulsy I'd be thrilled if 48 people left comments on my blog, but Salman Rushdie and too many celebs are as controversial as it gets. We could talk about religion, but I have a standpoint that may come as a surprise to people, borne of experiences I'd rather not discuss here. Politics I can really only go so far on without losing my way. Let's just say, I know what I like and don't want to have to justify it to anyone.
That's the problem with debates. It's rare they are just that. It ends up in a slanging match and getting personal. That's not a discussion. So it's better to steer clear of controversy. Not that I'm against stirring it up once in a while, but I need to be absolutely certain of my points before we start. Anyone who knows me knows I like a good rant. Oh yes. Nobody likes a dullard.
But take a look at the Collins blog latest entry comments, and if you lose the will to live before reaching the end, I won't say I told you so.

This is a bit of a concidence as someone asked me the other day, at work, if I post about politics on my blog. I said no because, like religon, you really have to be sure of what you're getting into. I've seen arguments regarding politics and religion on messageboards, and it nearly always ends in tears.
Besides, religion and theology really don't interest me.
It's all the internet's fault, of course. That and the endless 'Have Your Say' sections on the news. Who honestly bothers with them, apart from the half-dozen loons desperate to see their name on-screen?
I've got no time for religion myself, but most religious people I've met are intelligent, thoughtful and kind. By contrast, most atheists seem to be juvenile oafs who haven't given the issue any real thought beyond the fact they really liked doing science at school. But again, that may just be the internet slowly turning everyone into Chris Moyles.
Bit rich of me posting all this haughty internet condemnation on a blog, but there you go.
You're right though cinema, on the whole religious people are alright. Atheists have something to hide.
