Fed up!

I'm feeling mildly depressed today. I've got that Red Wine and Promises song going around my head and it's making me feel even more miserable. Could it be the weather is also to blame? It's very grey today. I'm all for slate-grey skies, as I've remarked before, but this is getting out of hand.

So what's getting my goat?

I've had a sore throat for about two weeks. I came home from work sick on Wednesday afternoon, but felt well enough to return on Thursday. Then I had Friday off which I'd booked as holiday, and it was nice and calm. But I'm really tired as well. And I'm having trouble sleeping because it's so hot at night. I'm not a summer person.

Work is not helping.

Mrs F-C breezed back from Finland yesterday and criticized everything I'd done while she was away. She hated the new - albeit dirt cheap but effective - light I'd bought from IKEA, which I braved on Friday. She didn't like the St Elmo's Fire poster (original and rare) I'd put up, nicely framed, above our bed. Whenever she comes back from a trip we always have a falling out as she re-establishes her dominance in the household. At least she thinks she rules. it's better that way. Still, it's always nice to have her back. She'll be fine tonight.

Generally just feeling grim. Looking forward to going on holiday in two weeks. I need to relax.

On another note, I finally watched GBH over the weekend. I liked it a lot, I thought Michael Palin was great. But the whole thing looks very dated now, and all the political stuff didn't help. I suppose it is 16 years old. It could have been done in less parts. I guess the fast pace of today's drama is to blame for that.

I also watched ancient horror classic Dead Of Night, which was great. And there was a very atmospheric thunderstorm going on outside, which really helped to set the mood.

I feel better already.

A friend of mine very kindly bought me the GBH box set a while back (only £5 in one of those clearance book shops). I haven't watched it yet as I know it won't be as good as I remember, and I've not seen it since I broke up with a girl who was so mad on it she went out and bought the soundtrack album.
It marked my official return to liking Robert Lindsay. I used to love Get Some In and Citizen Smith but then he started disappearing up his own arsehole by only doing Shakespeare and heavyweight plays. When I found out he supports Derby County, that really put a lid on it for me. But you can't help but admire him in GBH. He 'owns' it - as I believe the young people of today say with annoying regularity.

Ikea, are you mad?

It's the weather. I told the sky to 'Just fuck off' this morning, so it's clearly making me mad.

I agree that GBH = great, but the political stuff is a drag of the first order.

I'm afraid I am with Mrs FC on the issue of the St Elmo's Fire poster. One does not wish to have one's boudoir sullied by thoughts of John Parr's mullet. What a mood-killer...

Hey, John Parr's playing at a village hall around these parts soon (true). Who's up for it?

For me, Kitten, there's Ally Sheedy. For Mrs F-C Rob Lowe. What's the problem here?

IKEA, yes I was mad, but I had lunch there (the meatballs and the chips) and it made it all worthwhile.

But after St Elmo's Fire (Man In Motion), what else can there possibly be?

There's also "Rock and Roll Mercenaries", his duet with Meat Loaf. But one and a half hits does not a happening evening make...

Placing anything new above the bed while one's spouse is away is a very bold move -almost confrontational. If you'd put the poster in the hall, Mrs F-C would probably have just grunted at it.

The rotten weather is making everyone a bit viral and grumpy though. If the sun comes out, she may suddenly decide she loves it.

Yes, ISBW, we'll see. She's always grumpy when back from a trip. I should know better.
