You deserve to die!

I hate cyclists. I mean, really hate them.

London cyclists, FR.

There seems to be a worrying fashion for cyclists in central London to ride on the pavement (especially around Tottenham Court Road, for some reason).

I appreciate that London roads are hell for cyclists and that they are very vulnerable to accidents, given the number of inconsiderate car drivers around, but IT'S NO EXCUSE FOR SPEEDING DOWN THE BLOODY PAVEMENT WITHOUT SO MUCH AS A BELL TO WARN THE INNOCENT PEDESTRIANS, YOU FUCKWITS. I'm sick of diving out of their way, and what makes it worse, THEY always seem to be the ones who are pissed off about it. GET ON THE ROAD, ARSEHOLES!!

I feel better for that.

They berate you in no uncertain terms for anything you do in the car, yet off they go sailing through the lights without so much as a by your leave. I really loathe them.

Can I join in? A ten year old crossed on the red man with a bike the other day, and hit my fucking car. That made me cross, but it's forgivable, as I shouted at him in a parental fashion. But it's the adults, who think they own the road, think they can do what they like, and especially ride along the road with NO LIGHTS. One day I'm going to knock one down, purely out of spite, and as I loom over their prone body, simply say 'Sorry, I didn't see you as you don't have any lights....'.

As a pedestrian, couldn't agree more; as a driver, it's motorbikes/mopeds/scooters that get my goat. So, you're meant to give them a car's width when overtaking, but what motorcyclist ever gives themselves a car's width when they're sneaking up between the lanes in a traffic jam, then pulling out in front of the car at the head of the queue. And is it just me, or are all large motorbikes ridden by middle-aged twats with beer bellies and "cool" goatees who think they're ever so rock'n'roll with their throbbing steel steed between their legs? Nobheads.

As a motorist, I ride my bike in the same manner as I drive my car. I stop at junctions and wait at the side of the road until it's safe to cross. Plus, I also have a set of fully functioning lights.

Mind you, my route to work is mainly cycle paths, so I guess I'm kind of lucky.

So much anger. That's bad karma, man! I don't drive a car or ride a bike.

I admint to having shouted at cyclists who have attempted to mow me down while cycling on the pavement. Sadly it's not just London that this goes on.

Fascists! I'm going to invent a time machine, visit your thirteen old selves, and flush your heads down the toilets.

Right after I've walked past my bicycle, fired up the turbo on my death-mobile and powered up the road leaving some size 15 carbon footprints behind me.

(sorry 5C. tough week)

As a cyclist the problem lies in certain areas:
1) Police couldn't give a monkeys whether anyone rides on the pavement anymore. When I was a kid you would have got a clip round the ear for riding on the pavement.
2) There doesn't seem to be any real training for cyclists these days. Is there still a cycling proficiency test? If there is, not many people seem to take it.
3) We're not really a nation of cyclists traditionally, although more are getting on their bikes. When you ride in places like France, there does seem to be more respect from drivers who don't come within an inch of knocking you off or try and squeeze past when a lorry is coming the other way. If more drivers were cyclists, there wouldn't be so many issues.
But thanks for saying I deserve to die. Really appreciate that....

Bikeability is the new cycling proficiency test. I bet they've made it really exciting for 21st century kids (why does everything have to be thrilling and exciting these days? Cycling safety is quite serious...)

Obviously, when I say you deserve to die, I really meant it! I want everyone to be safe.

They make me very angry that's all, never sticking to the rules of the road, but one false move from them and it's a torrent of abuse.

I notice now more and more bikes are stopping at lights, but the competitive ones sail on through. There are fines for that now.

I loved my bike as a kid and was never off it. And if you had no lights on or went on the pavement the police would be on your tail.

There are not any deterrents now, except on the spot fines of course, but how many of those have you seen dished out?

I live with a very responsible ( honest) cyclist, who is also a driver. Even when on his own bike, he will issue a roar of 'get some fucking lights' at those Urban Warriors who persist in pedaling around after dark, dressed in black, with not a light to their name.

He feels it gives the lot of them the bad name they so obviously have.

Training is not what's missing. Most of the cyclists I see sailing through red lights seem all properly togged up with helmets and the like, and very confident on their bikes. They seem like very safe cyclists ... Except for the fact that they ignore traffic lights in a way that suggests they feel above the laws of the road, and the pavement, which they seem to use as a second lane whenever convenient. (NOT ALL CYCLISTS OBVIOUSLY.) I mean, they don't even seem to slow down at red lights, never mind stop. Do they perhaps feel it is justified revenge for the bad way they have been treated by motorists? If so, it is illogical revenge, as it can only hurt pedestrians. Who are pedestrians to take their revenge out upon? People with no legs?

Congratulations, F-C, for a shorter blog entry than my own about rugby, and with a similarly heated response.

Thanks Andrew. It seems to me the shorter they are, the more debate they stir.
