Tonight is the work Christmas do. Sadly, it's always fancy dress, and tonight's theme is...West End musicals. So expect men dragged up as the Tim Curry character from Rocky Horror, lots of Sally Bowles and Chicago women, some Guys and Dolls and possibly the odd Oklahoma.
I'm not keen on fancy dress per se, but if you don't do it you stick out and wish you had. So it's never that bad. Just as well, as everywhere I've worked loves fancy dress. In my time I've done the Pope, Harry Potter, Bryan Ferry, Captain Kirk, Sonny Bono and God, among others. Try hailing a cab as the last one. Funnily enough they do stop.
So after much deliberation I'm going as Dick Van Dyke from Mary Poppins. It's all sorted. I'm nursing a bit of a sore arm from taking a tumble on the ice at last night's skating with Holby City do, but I won't let it stand in my way. There was a good turn out last night. Patsy Kensit and Tina Hobley didn't take to the ice, but everyone else showed willing. Had a great chat with Robert Powell about Asylum and Thriller and others from his back catalogue.
If you see someone falling over and having to be helped up on BBC Breakfast news the week after next - that's me. Today I'm off to The Bill's Christmas lunch, which has got to be far less injurious.

So how did it go, Bert?
A triumph. Pictures to be posted at a later date.
I hope you were tapdancing with cartoon penguins...
But of course, hence my aching thighs today.
I'm looking forward to the pictures. Our work do is next Friday and promises to be an alcohol fest. If I emerge unscathed I may post about it.
May I ask - how does one go about dressing up as God? Is it as simple as a large white double sheet, a tack-on halo and a long beard?
