Keep on running

I went to get 'fitted' for some new trainers at lunch time. I refuse to go to that shop in Camden that makes you run up the road in them, so I went to JD Sports instead.

Of all the types of shop there are in the world, the sports shop is probably the type I've been in least. I may have been into more bra shops than sports shops. As you know, I'm not a sporty person, have no interest in sport and don't possess much - if any - sports wear. To me, the trainer is purely a comfortable fashion shoe.

So feeling fat, over forty and brave, I ventured in. Faced with a tsunami of footwear, and with music so loud I was surprised there wasn't a dancefloor, I didn't really know where to begin. So I asked.

I imagined a smirky 12-year-old would try to give me the hard sell while sniggering to his mates, but I was pleasantly surprised. A non-judgemental girl took me right to what I needed with minumum fuss. I'm now the trepidatious owner of a shiny new pair of black and blue Nike trainers. That's more like it.

On another note, are you a Lost fan? I thought last night's opener was rather flat. Let's hope it gets better of I'm off.

Are you going to start running 5C? Or are they for the gym. I only ask because I've recently 'half taken up' half-running when I take my dogs out. People keep telling me I'll have a heart attack, which is somewhat off-putting

It's for running, Val. Starts tomorrow.

Surely running means you WON'T have heart attack?

You WILL have a heart attack. But then you'll recover, be lovely and slim, and feel wonderful.
