Empire building

Had a super time at the Empire Awards last night. The turnout was pretty good and we had a nicely positioned table; to our left Jim Broadbent, Paddy Considine, Simon Pegg and Nick Frost. To our right, Matt Damon. He's a short man, but I did get to briefly meet him. He was the only real A-lister there, though to me, Paddy Considine is A list. I never got to actually talk to him, but I was dying to, as he's one of my favourite actors.

Others in attendence were Paul Greengrass, Guillermo Del Toro, David Yates, Emma Watson (being groped by her frankly much older boyfriend at the aftershow party), Jason Isaacs (we had a long chat about the upcoming Steptoe thing which I've seen and it's great and, of course, Capital City), Chewitel Ejiofor among others, and lots of up and coming people I've either a) never heard of, or b) heard of but never seen.

Rob Brydon was our host, and he was rubbish. I've had first hand experience of this man, and to me, he always comes across as being desperate to be liked, to be a bigger star and to be funnier. He's not funny, his jokes were awful and there were some shocking tumbleweed moments. James Corden, one of the presenters, outshone him so much he looked really cross about it. He always seems to bring everything back to himself and his career, and so comes across as quite desperate.

So there were random film types everywhere, what they all do is anyone's guess. So a nice night out. I think it's on the telly tonight. I'm on the left hand side of the room, behind Jonas Armstrong.

Went to the Zombies on Friday night with gig-going pal TT. They did all of Odessey and Oracle, with all the Zombies hits, some great stuff from Colin Blunstone's solo career (that's him in the picture), like Misty Roses and a magnificent Say You Don't Mind, and Rod Argent doing a blistering version of Hold Your Head Up.

Once again, however, there was so much chatting going on in the rear stalls behing us, that we could have called off the gig and just put on Spanish Flea and passed the Twiglets round. The noise levels rivalled those of a cocktail party. It's so incredibly rude to talk through a gig, and I'm at a loss to understand why you would go if all you're going to do is talk through it. Why not just go to the pub instead?

Still, a great eveing, rounded off by a few drinks with The Urban Woo and he lovely garden designer pal Fiona. Now that's when chatting is good.

It was OK upstairs, and I did notice it was marvellously free of nitwits filming the gig on mobiles.

I am in love with Colin Blunstone circa. 1970.

One of my friends went to see Colin Blunstone and Rod Argent last year, and was seated next to a man who spent the entire gig with his sketchpad out, faithfully recording the event in charcoal. Less rude than talking loudly, I suppose, but only just.

I wish I'd known you'd be chatting to Jason Isaacs at the Empire Awards, as I could have asked you to say hello from me - we were at school together, though I doubt he'd remember me. Classmates rather than mates.

Mind you, we did act together once, in a production of Woody Allen's 'God' where I played the narrator and Jason was my sidekick. He almost put me off during one performance by painting my toenails!

ISBW, you know you're at a gig with oldies when they do charcoal sketche as opposed to videoing it on their mobiles...I was sketched once in McDonalds in Leicester; my attention was only drawn to it when my pal heard someone scribbling, and they were re-creating my Magnificently Big Hair of the early Eighties.

So close to Paddy Considine and you didn't say anything? I watched a clip of him being interviewed on You Tube over the weekend and he seems like an extremely approachable bloke.
Like me, he was born on the banks of the Trent. It bestows greatness upon you, apart from Robbie Williams of course.

Let me clear this up. When I say groped, I mean she was cuddling and kissing with her boyfriend, his hands quite visibly on her bottom.

Now, they are both over 18 and there's nothing wrong with this. She is allowed to have a boyfriend and they were just doing what a normal girlfriend and boyfriend do - it just happened to be in public, that's all.

Don't worry about it, Emma fans.

and how does he look like? And why there arent any pics:? tnx

and she is not over 18 she is 18. you probably saw other girl:) Cause i doubt emma would grope guy in a public

Jon Peake said...

No, it was her.

How do you know what she's like and what she'll do and not do? You only see what's on film.

I don't know her either, but standing right next to her at an awards ceremony which she attended with her boyfriend, I know what I saw.

Get over it everyone.

how does he look like? Does he have black hair? Is he really much older? And why no pics? Anyway did you see Evanna and Katie too?

I've just reminded myself of this thread after F-C's latest post about Emma Watson.

I'm still laughing.

I fucked Emma Watson once, she was crap. She does swallow though, so that was fair enough.

Part of Argentina has just spontaneously combusted.
