I always catch a bit of Channel 4's Freshly Squeezed while waiting for Everybody Loves Raymond (which I'm now officially bored of) to come on.
Have you seen this? It's a half-hour programme of music videos and band/film star interviews carried out in such an inept way, that it beggars belief.
The presenters rotate between a hopeless Asian girl whose name escapes me, that twat Rick Edwards (he went to Cambridge you know0 and that even bigger twat, Eighties girl-boy Nick Grimshaw and others I can't even be bothered to go into.
Their presenting 'style' involves them louchely sitting next to each other, legs akimbo, affecting this 'can't be arsed' air, appearing not to try to even begin to be normal presenters because - hey - that just wouldn't be cool. They're symptomatic of the today's laissez-faire, 'wot-evah!' youth mindset. They're rude about the acts they have on, the interviews are sub-Smash Hits what's your favourite colour stuff, someone tells a joke and it's always met with ironic tumbleweed and lots of 'did you see what I did there?' nonsense. It's shocking.
We used to think the Big Breakfast was amateurish, but frankly this makes The Word look like Question Time.
Don't watch it, and save yourself the heartache of watching British TV swirling down the pan before your very eyes, and faster than you'd feared.
Still, at least Steve Jones has left.

Of course it's meant to be a bit shambolic, as epitomised by Simon Amstell with Mikita Oliver on Popworld (whose position was indeed taken by Chung in 2006)

Well, I may have to reconsider my comments. This may be genuinely shambolic, not ironically shambolic.

Thing is, Amstell and Oliver were good because, as far as I'm aware , they were first pop-orientated show to take the piss. It was refreshing to see them ask inane singers stupid questions and see the pop stars struggle to work out what was going on - see Britany Spears being asked 'have you ever licked a battery?'
But now, the new lot have taken over this mantle, but don't have the talent to pull it off. Or more likely misunderstood Oliver and especially Amstell's style for the laissez-faire yoof give a shit style you describe and thought that was what made it good.
Amstell's hounding of Preston on Never Mind the Buzzcocks was genunily funny and quite ballsy; you'd never get any of this lot doing that.
He has the intelligence to pull it off. Edwards and Grimshaw mistake rudeness for wit, something that's all too common these days.
Yeah, and they slagged off Pearl Jam the other week!

Glad you've picked up on this horrific half-hour of fuckwittery. And please don't anyone else defend Mikita Oliver. 1. She's crap. 2. She doesn't have a neck. 3. She's crap. 4. She's mates with Amy Winehouse. And Simon Amstell was crap on Popworld too – I like him a lot on Buzzcocks, but back then he was just an annoying little snot-ball of sarcasm and self love. Totally agree about the interviews, too - and however shit those bands may be, they without exception have infinitely more talent than the dimbulbs "interviewing" them. Where do they find these people?
More positive footnote: I saw Alexa Chung in Habitat once. Really very beautiful indeed.
Love it! Nice work. I have the same opinion myself, although my arguments were less rounded and thought out. Just hate their hipster-guts and stupid take on 'irony'. Or whatever the hell that is....
