I went to the launch of the new Casualty series last night. Regular readers will know what a fan I am, so I always make sure I go to this one.
Lots of new cast, including four junior doctors (one played by Georgia Moffet, Doctor Who fans), and lots of big stunts to kick it off. I was going to leave at 830 but the rain! I've never seen torrents like it. So I went back in and stayed until 1030 getting very very drunk on white wine and regretting it today.
Anyhoo, I see that John Hughes has died. For those who don't know who that is, he's behind some of my favourite films, those Brat Pack films of the Eighties which for me were right in the moment: The Breakfast Club, Pretty In Pink, St Elmo's Fire, Sixteen Candles, Weird Science, Ferris Bueller, etc ...I love them all. I own the DVDs, the soundtracks, the original posters, and could watch them again and again. In fact I do.
It's hard to put my finger on why I like them so much, but I used to fancy Ally Sheedy a lot. I loved anything to do with American schools (Class is another classic), the characters (but not necessarily the actors) were about my age at the time and their issues were often my issues. They're also very quotable. Oh those salad days!

And I'm with you on Ally Sheedy - I've even been known to watch Short Circuit as despite talking robots and Steve Guttenberg she does a scene in the bath.
That is a shame. Ferris Bueller I can watch for ever after, along with Weird Science. Mia Sara anytime and Kelly le Brock in her prime:- "Outstanding" as we used to say.
I hope your hangover is receding. Try some flat lemonade, it's the bicarb in it you know.

Ferris is my favourite, but let's not forget Some Kind of Wonderful and Trains Planes and Automobiles.
I also agree about Ally Sheedy, but only the way she looks in The Breakfast Club.
