Not going down very well

Indigestion. It's a scourge, isn't it? I'm getting it all the time. I think it's not helped by stress. Not that I personally have much to be stressed about, but things in the course of your day can get you.

So when I woke up at four in the morning, dying of indigestion but convinced it was a heart attack, but realising it was the burrito I'd had earlier, I made a vow not to let things get to me. But I don't know how that's possible.

Do you?

It's your age, dear. Less heavy, spicy food (certainly late at night) and always keep a Zantac in your pocket.

God, you said what I could only dare think. Another avenue of pleasure closed to me then.

Sad but true, spicy food has to be dropped.

I'm a therapist, so naturally I have all the answers and never let ANYTHING get to me. Never take anything heavier than barley broth after 4pm, and never have any more fun, EVER. Your guts will love you for it

Sound advice indeed, ISBW.

Better order that crate of Gaviscon, then.

Take it from the woman with the five-inch scar (and other assorted ones); look after your guts and they'll look after you. The PAIN!!

Amazing - I had the self same thing last night (well almost). But more stomach rumbles than anything, it's been making the gurgles of an emptying bath for hours now. I almost bought my first pack of Rennies today, but went for Tums as they sound less middle aged.

Immodium's a no no - how can you look anyone in the eye when buying something with that dignity-free descriptive baggage. Which is why I also didn't pick up the pile cream (for today's baggy eyes).

What is indigestion? And what's the difference between that and heartburn? I'd like to know because sometimes I get this horrible feeling from my chest to my throat which I feel only a bloody good belch can sort out. I keep meaning to keep some mints in my workbag and manbag. I don't think it's helped by me wolfing down a bowl of Shreddies and a glass of Tropicana at 4am

I don't suffer from indigestion much, but I see from all the comments here that it is only a matter of time before I will. Oh, good. Another thing to look forward to.

Immodium be damned. Try asking for Preparation H - or worse - Anusol!

Yes, I've been there.

B.A., you've got acid reflux, as OP says, the curse of our age.
