Sunday Will Never Be The Same

I like staying in on a Sunday night. If anyone asks me to go out on a Sunday night I always refuse. It all goes back to those back to school Sunday's of yore, when it was bath and a hairwash, crumpets on the trolley and To Serve Them All My Days.

I hated that, but I like my own Sunday nights. Good food, fine wine, something top on the telly. Nothing warms the cockles more than a Monarch Of The Glen, Howards' Way, The Brothers-type serial. I'm afraid I'm not a Heartbeat fan - it should be at least 1975 by now - and never liked Wild At Heart of Where The Heart is or anything with the word heart in the title. So it's the BBC for us.

However, it's all come to a juddering halt. I'm very disappointed. Mrs F-C and I loved The Chase last year. You couldn't go wrong - light drama, set in the country, something medical, and animals. But this year it's just going round in circles. Gaynor Faye pulls faces, alternately getting on then not getting on with her stepmother, Michelle Holmes' character Claudie who's actually the best thing in the show.

Nicola Stephenson is just horrid, and there's not nearly enough of the super Heather Peace. It's all lemon-lipped Janet Dibley versus doughy yet ageless Reece Dinsdale and perfect-toothed Sunetra Sarker. And menopausal receptionist Rachel Davies is just silly. It's official - I've gone off it. Talk To Me is not my cup of tea either.

We need The Brothers revived, followed by a nice Screen One. Remember them? Or a nice four-part series like Mother Love or The Lakes.

If the BBC are not careful, I'll to submit my own ideas...

I've heard many tea-things-'n'-telly-based summations of youthful Sunday evenings in my time, but this tops the lot. Magnificent!

I agree with the sentiment, but the early evening 60's/70's drama's not for me. I need to wait until 9pm crack open the fine wine and settle in with Foyle's War. Unfortunately ITV are choosing to spoon feed us this show, and it's a guessing game to work out when (or if) there'll be another episode.

I've never got into Foyle's War, and I know I should cos it' s right up my street. It seems to alternate with Midsomer Murders, another comfort food.

I can't bring myself to like any Sunday night drama since Cold Feet finished. I think it's because I now have the attention span of a goldfish, and I'm a big fan of the one parter, especially those ones with Sarah Parish (Recovery; Sex, the City and Me).

Foyle's War looks like it's been shot through gravy.

I don't enjoy what passes for Sunday night TV at all these days. If you ask me, it's been all downhill since The House of Eliot and Bluebell...

I know Heartbeat gets slagged, but you have to put something on for the old folks, don't you?

Too true, Rich. My parents never miss it.
