I take it back

The weather was generally shocking, but I was rather taken aback by some of the new deveolpments in Jersey - like this one. This sparkling boutique hotel is just one aspect of a massively revived waterfront area, soon to have a bright new mall in what used to be an abbatoir.

Other elements remain delightfully old-fashioned though. Dinner at the St Brelade's Bay Hotel was like a scene from a film from the early 1960s. People actually dressed up for it in ties and suits, etc. The waiters had steward like stripes on their shoulders and it was silver service all round. A man acquainted with my in-laws played a white piano. He was 94. Nice views though, and the food wasn't bad.
