Don't be shy - let's shuffle!

They're doing it over here, and they're always doing it over there. So now it's my turn.

Put your ipod on shuffle tell us your first five tunes.

I'll start.

(Now, do bear in mind this could be wildly embarrassing, but I'm not going to lie, I'm going to tell it like it is).

Devonside/Richard Thompson

Blue Jean/David Bowie

Everybody's Everything/Santana

Mad About You/Bruce Ruffin

Alone in Kyoto/Air

How dull was that? Out of 14,500+ songs, that's the best it could do?

Now it's your turn.

oh goody, here goes:
1. Tonight's the night (Gwen Mcrae)
2. Love Chain (Candi Staton)
3. Timeless Melody (?? You know who..)
4. Coming in to land (Badly Drawn Boy)
5. Evidemment (France Gall)

Whatever the shuffle man do say is alright by me

1) Confession - The Bevis Frond
2) Everybody's Trying To Be My Baby - The Beatles
3) The Libido Blues - Chris Jagger
4) It Never Rains - Dire Straits
5) Living Proof (live) - Bruce Springsteen

A bizarre mixture of mainstream and obscure, and Mick's brother as well. What more do you need?

I'm iPod-less and don't have any interest in getting one, but here are my current top five songs for singing to myself as I shuffle around the office:

Polka Dots and Moonbeams by Frank Sinatra
Rio by Mike Nesmith
Christine (Devil in Disguise) by the Flying Burrito Brothers
Life Could Be A Dream (Sh-Boom Sh-Boom) by the Crewcuts
I Love The Nightlife by Alicia Bridges

Tired (Low)
Sweet Thing (David Bowie)
Grapefruit Moon (Tom Waits)
Silver Lady (David Soul) -forgive me
Lisa Says (Velvet Underground)

Nearly got away clean!
The sixth song was Captains Dead (Guided by Voices). How about I swap that one for D.Soul? No one need be any the wiser?

I think every five-shuffle has one crappy one. At least it does if you have catholic tastes. I'm happy to listen to Silver Lady, but I suppose it is a girls' song.

There is no such thing as a 'guilty pleasure' (an expression I loathe) therefore if Fragile or Silver Lady are within your personal taste, then that's fine.

Here's mine:

1 - Just The Way You Are, Milky
2 - Life's Been Good, Joe Walsh
3 - Talking To Myself, Cousteau
4 - Don't Tell Me, Blancmange
5 - Independent Love Song, Scarlet

I agree with Matt - nothing wrong with David Soul - you'll find not only Silver Lady but all the other hits from Playing To An Audience Of One on my ipod.

I don't believe in Guilty Pleasures either. I applaud you Val!

theme de yo yo - art ensemble of chicago
sweet inspiration - suprremes and the temptations
track 21 - that's all it says how the hell should i know
definate article 23 - eddie izzard
let the music play - white, barry (it's what it says here)

that went quite well - it normally picks loads of the horrific crap i've got for my little sisters xmas presents and've forgotten to delete.
and pleasures should never be guilty. unless you like being mean and horrid obviously
x

Totally agree that there should be no such thing as a guilty pleasure. Pleasure is pleasure. Unless you're a Catholic.

Here we go, two-three-four . . .

1. HOUSES OF THE HOLY Led Zeppelin
2. QUICK, BEFORE IT MELTS Cinerama
3. AMERSHAM ROAD The Race (great band from Reading, if you've not heard them)
4. PORNOGRAPHY Client
5. I'M A PARTY Magazine

Well, I was hoping for some black music to prove I'm not a racist*, but that's the way the 7,616 songs crumbled.

(6 would have been STROKE OF DEATH by Ghostface Killah - phew!)

Nice mix, Andrew.

Today, it's a different story entirely:

The King Is Half-Undressed/Jellyfish

Sad Sweet Dreamer/Sweet Sensation

Island Of Lost Souls/Blondie

I Get High On Your/Sly & The Family Stone

A Different Beat/Boyzone

Oh! And I was doing so well.

At No.6: '93 Aka Don't Stop Now/Lemon Jelly

Can I play too?

Cloud Cuckoo - Sasha
I know what I'm here for - James
All that jazz - Echo & the Bunnymen
Eagles Goth - Eagles of Death Metal
Dunya Salam - 1 Giant Leap

A bit mainstream, but I'll take it

I Am A Child (some live bootleg) - Neil Young

Single File - Elliott Smith

All Down The Line - Rolling Stones

Out On the Water - The Court & Spark

Fifteen Keys - Uncle Tupelo

Taken from 9,263 songs. What a tedious alt country bore I am.

Jon Peake said...

You and your Americana, Squirrel. Time to broaden those horizons.

1. Cupid's Trick (Elliott Smith)
2. House Of The Holy (Led Zep)
3. Sunshowers (M.I.A.)
4. Dimmest Star (Pernice Brothers)
5. A Child Is Born (Kenny Burrell)

Typical bloody Word reader...

Jon Peake said...

I think that applies to just about all of us, Johnny.

I don't believe in guilty pleasures, I just have a lot of shit on my iPod.

A late arrival here.

1. Silver Shorts - The Wedding Present
2. Remember (walkin' in the sand) - The Shangri Las
3. William it was really nothing - The Smiths
4. Wings of a Dove - Madness
5. Cherry Chapstick - Yo La Tengo

Sums me up reasonably well..
