I want to die

I must thank Jill for what has become one of my favourite ever pictures. It's now my desktop wallpaper and makes me smile every time I see it. It's a gem. Suitably bleak, very 1970s, kind of Ingmar Bergmanesque.

When you discover that it's actually from a 1972 Ikea catalogue, it all makes sense. But is this any way to sell furniture? Perhaps it was in Sweden. Whatever is going on here? It's a picture of someone's private hell.

It all makes sense.

It would make a great Nina Simone album cover too.

It's 'bringing it all back home' without Bob and the lighting.

"But is it any better than any other classic comedy series like The Good Life, Dad's Army or Mary Tyler Moore, or indeed any comedy show that is character-based?"

In my opinion yes it is slightly better -- firstly it seems to appeal to a broader spectrum of viewers. Dad's Army does not appeal to me because it's too male based barrack boys humour. The Good Life put me off with the insufferably cute (fancied by all men) Barbara.

I'm also not a huge fan of Fawlty Towers, which again seems to be slightly more appreciated by comedy-centric nerdish blokes.

I think there are a number of reasons why OFAH has gathered the comedy gold reputation it has over the years and I don't care if that means that I have very boring and predictable tastes.

That IS a fab picture, F-C. I think the pattern on the sofa has given the poor lady a slight migraine.

Thanks should really go to my friend Jereeza because she found it and scanned it. I believe the source is actually an ad from a Yugoslavian magazine!
