The National Movie Awards

So what are these for exactly? Are they really the people's choice? When you only get about five stars of varying degrees of greatness, is there really any point in yet another awards ceremony, especially one that honours dogshit like Mamma Mia. God, people have got such bad taste.

The people behind this are the same ones behind the National Music Awards, which did two years then died a death, when it became apparent that it was merely a showcase for Sony BMG 'talent". I attended the first year, sat next to Blue (though someone had to point out to me who they were), and watched The Cheeky Girls make their debut. Remarking to my neighbour that I couldn't believe what I was seeing, she sagely remarked that we'd all be humming it by Christmas. How right she was. But truly it was a dire do. Tess Daly, then a teen host, trod on me. But she was hugely apologetic.

So now that these latest awards pulled in a paltry two millions viewers, is there any point carrying on? I watched a bit of it, and from what I could see, it was a load of trailers for new or upcoming films. The awards ceremony bit was just an excuse for shameless marketing. The set was dull and the room looked half-empty. That said, Emma Watson, yes, EMMA WATSON was there in hot pants with - shock! - a boyfriend.

And James Nesbitt made a crap host.

Give it up, ITV. No one's interested.

Not a patch on the TV Quick and TV Choice Awards, which were awash with the stars of popular TV, and always have been…

How did you do that??

Being trodden on by Tess Daly is one for the F-C memoirs, mind.

I read in the paper the other day that Emma Watson's invested some of her newly acquired millions in property. Probably so she can fuck her boyfriend's brains out without her parents listening.

I saw those TV Quick awards on the telly, they gave Loose Women a gong. Who the hell votes for that?

Five-Centres said...

Loose Women fans. They do exist.

My older brother, Will, rather likes it. I think he's straight...

Do you remember those Celeb Awards we were on the panel of, where nobody wanted Jordan to win Mum of the Year - and she ended up winning Mum Of The Year?

Them TV Quick and Choice Awards are honest.

Yes, they were convinced the cast of Friends were going to turn up. Of course they didn't. In the end I think they got Kerry Katona and Jade Goody and that was it.

I remember when it came time for the ceremony none of us panel were allowed to go because OK! had bought the rights to all the pics.

It was an utter farce and lasted but one year. Or was it two?

Sorry to take issue with you, Clair, but I seriously doubt that those TV Quack Awards are any more honest than all the other awards events organised by magazines.

The results will have been manipulated according to whoever the magazine was able to persuade to turn up for the cameras or needed to keep sweet for the next year.

They're not actually Gill. In these days of fakery things cannot be manipulated.

I think I got sent a half-bottle of champagne and a toothbrush to make up for my disappointment, F-C. It didn't, of course - I wanted to go and shout 'YOU COW!' at Jordan.
