Someone's somewhere's having 'fun'

I think there's a conspiracy going on.

Every day, for about the past two weeks, whether it be on the radio, on TV shows, adverts, popping up on the ipod, in restaurants, bars, in the street, in shops, etc., I've heard the same song: Girls Just Want To Have Fun by Cyndi Lauper.

I know it's one of those Eighties hits that refuses to die, and I'm actually quite glad about that because it's a cracking song, and who can forget the way she played the gantry on TOTP. However, why am I suddenly hearing it every day? It's everywhere and I can't escape it. Has she died? I'm going to go off it, I'm warning you.

Why can't we hear For America by Red Box or Driving Away From Home by It's Immaterial or perhaps There's Someone Following Me by Eddie & Sunshine, just by way of a change?

Still, at least it's not Sisters Are Doing It For Themselves, Easy Lover or Move Closer. I'd rather have no ears than hear them again.

What would Owen Paul do?

It's weird. Someone put it on in the office the other day. Then I found myself watching the video on YouTube.

And on Friday, I was buying a coffee and Time After Time came on the radio, and the girl behind the counter started singing along. The campaign has obviously been stepped up another level.

I was looking through my 7"s on the weekend and found 3 copies of Easy Lover. Want one?

Three copies!? Why? And no, I don't!

It seems the Cyndi Lauper revival starts here, Chris.

She did have a new album out which she was hawking around a few weeks ago. But this seems to be happening all of its own accord.

I was in the lift with Dr Fox this morning. I should have asked him.

Well, its a great song and I just seemed to have acquired numerous copies over the course of living in two countries. Let me know if you change your mind!

I too have been particularly aware of that song recently. Maybe it's a bit like the North Koreans, suddenly issuing numerous undated photos of Kim Jong Il visiting a football match, to counter the rumours of his death. Only I hadn't heard any rumours of Cindy Lauper's death.

Or maybe girls just really DO wanna have fun.
