It's not what she says...

I'm probably going against the grain here, but I can't stand this woman, Liberty director Shami Chakrabarti.

Did you see her on Question Time last night? She's like the head of the school debating society. She's so emotional, it's ridiculous. I don't think if you want to be taken seriously in political circles you can be emotional. She was close to tears on one occasion, clearly about something she feels passionate about and she's probably got a point. But she's so sixth form, it's laughable.

So it's not necessarily what she says - though she is so utterly reactionary it's untrue - it's how she gets her point across. Don't look at people with hate-filled eyes, Shami, because they don't agree with you. Don't shake you head with mocking laughter because you're not the winner of the argument. It's like a 14-year-old girl being told she can't have a pony. You can see her fighting back the tantrum before she runs to her room sobbing hot, angry tears of frustration. That or an overgrown firebrand student whose view is the only view. She must be impossible to live with.

In a nutshell, she gets on my wick. But doesn't she look like Tanita Tikaram? I wonder what her singing's like?

In a way, she's perfect to spearheard a charity, because she genuinely cares about what she's saying (I've met too many arsehole charity directors who are after the top pay check and faking passion all the way to the bank...)but I don't relate to a lot of what Liberty harks on about. They seem like an abstract, radical, toyshop version of Amnesty to me.

I was going to blog about Question Time. Bah!
My favourite bit? Will Young: "This whole snow business makes me so angry!" Calm down, it's not worth getting upset over.

Pop stars shouldn't really go on Question Time.

I've felt guilty about my negative response to her, because you can't fault her commitment and she really knows her stuff, but jeez, she's so fucking SHRILL. That petulant delivery you so accurately describe does her no favours at all. I've turned off 'Any Questions' once or twice because I find listening to her such hard work, much as I might agree with most of the content.

Gosh, I feel like I've just been caught sneering at Nelson Mandela for wearing flowery shirts. How odd.

I loved it when she supported Jon Gaunt, her sworn enemy, after he was sacked by talkSPORT - that really would have shut him up.

You can't fault her passion, it's true. It's just her. Grrrr.

Yes, Matt, Jon Gaunt has gone awfully quiet.

I kind of share this F-C. She's a time warp, apparently untouched by training or the ability to use a range of styles to influence others. It seems strange that the righteous passion for the cause of civil liberties is delivered in such a way that its affect upon others is not understood or even considered, apparently.
Passion 10, Self awareness and Understanding of Impact on Others - 0 as a review form might say.
You often get this with personality cult organisations though. They don't see the need to build relationships, then look hurt when they are treated as single agenda and marginalised.
Shame.
