Pole position

It's post 700 already! I'm sure it was only a few weeks ago that it was post 600. It's amazing how the time flies.

Anyway, I'm off to Warsaw on Thursday to join Mrs F-C who's working over there at the moment. I've never been before, and was surprised by the picture above just how modern and large it looks.

Anyone got any tips on bars, restaurants, sightseeing, etc?

I suppose it's all modern if you consider the Nazis burnt almost the entire place to the ground back in the '40s. They've done a good job of putting the old town back together, though it's all a bit Disneyland when you consider its age.

Not that the locals appreciate all the effort, the blind drunk, miserable SODS.

The Warsaw Zoo is a good one, if you don't mind zoos that is.

The river's nice for a boat trip, they say the new underground is impressive but coming from London that's a bit of a busman's holiday for you.

Like Sancho Perry says above, most of the place was obliterated by Hitler's lot, but the rebuilt version looks ok. Can't advise on eating and drinking, as it's been years since I was there and I seemed to spend most of my time picking through piles of Soviet-era cameras, watches and the like, in flea markets and junk shops. Happy days.

There's a lot about the Warsaw Ghetto and the Uprising, if you like a bit of history.

Hope the place isn't overrun with Brit stag party weekenders, the Poles deserve better than that. You probably do, as well.

Thanks OP, that's good advice. We love flea markets and hope there's still some rich pickings.
