Sucking The Life Out Of Me

What's your view on the whole Twilight saga?

Obvioulsy I have no time for it whatsoever.

I was in HMV recently near the posters section, and some teenage girls were actually properly screaming over a poster of R.Pattz. Silly name, dull guy. What is the attraction? He's pasty, about 12 and as far from a movie star as it's possible to be. He's like and extra from Night and Day (or should that be Nightanday?).

I'm at a loss to understand why the whole vampire thing's suddenly spiralled out of control. Why the sudden interest? I've never been one for Dracula, Frankenstein or werewolves. I prefer my horror paranormal. Big monsters don't do it. They're unscary and bit silly. Joan Collins being stalked by a maniac Santa? Now you're talking? Blind men forcing their institution's cruel director into a tunnel of razor blades? Yes please! But not this.

You can keep True Blood. It's like some teenage fantasy, along with The Vampire Diaries and everything else blood-sucking that's all the rage.

Anyway, back to Twilight. When the books came out they were roundly panned, and the films have received mixed reviews to say the least. But still the crowds come. It's not the story is it - it's because legions of girls fancy the male leads. Like the fact that Lloyd Daniels will win the X Factor the world's fate is in their hands and vampires rule.

Time to find that crucifix.

Obviously it's shit to you or I, but personally I think it's fine for teenage girls to enjoy it. I mean, why not? R-Patz (don't you HATE that?) is only the modern-day equivalent to a perma-stubbled Greek in his Speedoes singing about free drinks. Got to release those hormones somehow, FC.
The real thing that gets my goat is it isn't just teenagers – it's grown women who really should know better. It's for KIDS, ladies. Twilight: the new Harry Potter.

I have no interest in it myself, but I can see why teenage girls lap it up - as well as the blokes getting their shirts off a lot, it's all about swooning, forbidden romance.

Basically it's not the new Harry Potter - it's the new Thorn Birds!

Nice that girls still swoon, Kitten. I thought teenage girls were busy knifing each other then filming it on their mobiles.

You're right of course, Squirrel, we're not the target audience. Girls have always screamed at boys: David Cassidy, Donny Osmond, me. Sigh.

I was going to swan in with 'calm down, it's not FOR you' but obviously that ship has sailed. I read the first one before going on holiday to the Olympic Peninsula as sort of background & to see why the fuss and it was poor, but the 14 year old me would probably have liked it.

'True Blood' *is* dull, but Buffy was ace.
