It's a chilly English winter...

It's bitterly cold today isn't it? So why do some people insist on wearing only T-shirts (boys) or those flimsy little strappy tops (girls)? It's November and it's cold. Just because the sun is shining doesn't make it summer.

Only last weekend, which wasn't that cold but not hot either, I saw people in shorts and sandals. For some people, it seems this is their weekend default setting. I find this odd. I can't wait to put a jumper on. I'm not a big T-shirt fan - to me, they go under things rather than be worn on their own. I'll put a jumper on all summer if I can get away with it. Perhaps this makes me the polar opposite of those who only wear shorts and T-shirts in the winter. T-shirts and woolly hats though - that's just fashion victim silly.

So if you're among this brigade, do let me know why you do it.

And weather forecasters - stop apologising for rain and cold. It's expected at this time of the year. When I used to listen to Capital Radio (not since 1988 though), the weather reports used to be almost hysterical that it wasn't 22 degrees in December. But then they did think they were broadcasting to California, so fair enough.

I find not being able to deal with the seasons annoying. And that includes me too.

I saw a bloke earlier this week in full summer regalia - short sleeved cotton shirt, shorts and sandals - and there was a man on the way to work today who had crappy shorts on in Inverness Street. As my mum used to say, 'Where there's no sense, there's no feeling'.

I shall remember those wise words the next time I see girls out on the town in Newcastle, where the crop-top-and-mini-in-a-blizzard look has been de rigueur for some decades now.

Formerly I had always assumed that it was some sort of dominant Northern gene that I had somehow missed out on inheriting. But it may just be that my mother was a fanatical window-opener who even now complains about the heat in the middle of the winter, and therefore I contrarily grew up to be a big girl's blouse who likes to be a warm place with a cardigan on...

Update: I just saw a man in this building wearing shorts and sandals - and an overcoat!

So he knows it's cold - why not put some socks on then?

It's so people can continually say, albeit through chattering teeth, "Innit MILD for November, look, I'm only wearing a tiny camisole over my frozen blue puckered skin, this Global Warming's amazing, I say bring it on, another couple of years and it's gonna be like living in Florida I tell ya..."

THAT'S why they do it.

I see that all the time too. Mainly females wearing light tops and open toed sandals in the middle of a howling gale and lashing rain. And actually they do look a bit miserable. Well put a raincoat on you idiot!!!
